Shaping the Circular Economy: UAE Students Lead the Conversation on Biodiesel
BioD Technology, in partnership with Quddurat, is proud to announce the winners of the BioD Mini Gig Competition, a nationwide initiative that invited high school students across the UAE to creatively explore “The Importance of Biodiesel in Building a Circular Economy.”
The competition generated strong engagement, with a high volume of video submissions showcasing creativity, awareness, and forward-thinking perspectives on sustainability and clean energy.
Following a comprehensive evaluation by the joint committee from BioD Technology and Quddurat, one outstanding team of Year 11 students from The Philippine School, Dubai emerged as the winning submission:
- Luxeley Palaganas
- Sean San Juan
- Ryan San Juan
- Carine Rizarri
This group distinguished itself through a collaborative approach, compelling storytelling, and a clear understanding of biodiesel’s role in advancing a circular economy.
As part of their achievement, the winning team will now transition from concept to execution through a paid mini gig internship with BioD Technology, where they will develop 10 original video assets for BioD’s social media platforms. These videos will focus on raising awareness around sustainability and promoting the role of biodiesel as a practical, scalable solution for the future.
This progression from competition to real-world application reflects Quddurat’s core model: enabling students to move beyond theoretical learning into meaningful industry exposure.
Commenting on the initiative, Mr. Shiva Vig, CEO of BioD Technology, said:
“We are truly impressed by the level of creativity and awareness demonstrated by students across the UAE. This initiative goes beyond a competition, it reflects how the next generation is already engaging with critical topics such as sustainability and circular economy solutions. At BioD, we are proud to support and mentor these young talents as they translate their ideas into impactful content that drives awareness and change.”
This initiative reinforces the shared commitment of Quddurat and BioD Technology to empower youth, promote sustainability education, and create tangible pathways between education and industry.
